What is a grading?

The coloured belt gradings are like stepping stones on the path to a student’s goal of Black belt. A grading represents that a student has reached a competent level with their current techniques and are ready to move on to learn and develop more advanced techniques and skill sets.

What Is Involved?

When a student has completed their minimum time period and lessons on a particular belt, and have gained a strong grasp of the technical requirements for their current grade, their instructor will allow them to attend the next belt test.

Gradings are held every 4 months at 1 of our 3 venues that we teach.

Students from all of our venues attend this and grade as a collective group. Students are only tested on the techniques required for their belt grade. Immediately after the grading, a formal presentation occurs where students are awarded Grading Certificates and belts.

What is the order of belts in Karate?

Today’s modern Karate styles use the kyu/dan system. The “Black Belt” was designed to show competence in the art, not mastery of it. The black belt is only the beginning of the journey.
